Paula considers herself to be a generalist rather than a specialist which has been an unexpected strength. It has enabled her to work on many diverse projects for a wide range of clients without getting ‘pigeon-holed’. She is regularly asked ‘if she can do something’ and the answer is frequently ‘yes’. Paula will only accept projects which she knows she can complete brilliantly, on time and on budget.
Before setting up PS Business Matters, Paula spent 10 years working for Cumbria Tourism, offering practical business support and advice and developing and delivering a wide range of projects to help improve the performance of tourism businesses. The skills and knowledge gained here were easily transferred to other sectors, as are Paula’s project management, management and marketing qualifications. (Paula is a PRINCE2 Practitioner and holds ILM and CIM qualifications.)
In the 10 years before this, Paula gained an excellent operational background in the hospitality industry, working through housekeeping, F&B and reception, before progressing to Front of House management and sales and marketing. This taught her that many potential problems can be avoided with sensible communication and great customer service. It also taught her that delivering great service isn’t as easy as it sounds!
